Gear Up - The Ultimate Knife/Tool Combo
Here's one of the best "Gear Combinations" I've seen...Not sure where I ran across this, but once I did, I thought "That's a heck of an idea...why didn't I think of this?". Take one of the best "Survival Knifes" and put the best multi-tool in it? It utilizes the USAF 499-Survival Knife (the sheath, anyways), by Ontario Knives, and The Leatherman Micra.
To do this, you need to remove the sharpening stone from it's holder on the front of the sheath, and replace it with a better survival tool...the Leatherman Micra. If your stuck out in the wild long enough to have to sharpen your knife, then sharpening it is the least of your problems to begin with. I've tried the same thing with my USN-1 SP-24 Pilot Survival Knife Sheath, but because it's plastic, it doesn't take the Micra very well.
Just place the Micra (with some 220# Cord attached...another great survival tool by the way!!!) in the sharpening stone pocket...
...and when you take off from camp with your knife, or just have a SNAFU, you'll always have two valuable tools, and won't even notice that your packin' one of them!!!
Oh-Yeah, since this is my first "Gear-up" label, please let me know if you liked it, or if it helped...Thanks!
Is my blog, that will include posts on: -"Good Gear": My own personnel reviews on gear that I own (and trust in) or OWNED (and don't trust)...get an unbiased opinion on the best and worst before you decide to buy that next "Boy Toy" or "Gear" -"Gear-Up": Tips on using your gear...everything from the best way to pack, great gear combo's, and "gearing up"...from camping, to spelunking, and just getting the most out of your gear!!! -"Going Places": I've always been a nature buff and my extensive travels have made me partly who I am today and what I like to do. From miles long lava tubes in Iceland, to ancient churches on long forgotten riverbeds in Italy...I've learned that going to the far corners of the earth is alot easier, when you have the right stuff to do it with...
